ARRIVAL

Finnair has the best non-stop flight connections to Helsinki. It has for example six destinations in Germany (Berlin, Düsseldorf, Frankfurt, Hamburg, München, Stuttgart), four in United Kingdom (Edinburgh, Glasgow, London Heathrow, Manchester) and many daily flights from Amsterdam, Brussels, Geneva, Paris and Zurich. Finnair is a member of Oneworld alliance. Blue1 has non-stop flights for example London, Paris and Zurich. Blue1 is a subsidiary of SAS and it is a member of StarAlliance. Check also your national airline companies' web sites.

So-called cheap-flight-companies have little to offer: Air Berlin flies from Berlin Tegel and Düsseldorf to Helsinki, easyJet from London Gatwick to Helsinki, and Ryanair from Bremen, Frankfurt Hahn and London Stanstead to Tampere (160 km north of Helsinki).

From Helsinki-Vantaa International Airport you reach Helsinki City Centre easily by taking the bus number 615 (to Rautatientori / Railway Station, platform 21). A single regional ticket costs 4 €. Perhaps it will be useful to buy a regional tourist ticket, which is valid in Cities of Helsinki, Vantaa and Espoo for 1-5 days and costs 12-36 €. The tournament hall - like the airport - is situated in Vantaa. You can buy the tourist ticket from R-Kiosk at the airport. Inside City of Helsinki a single ticket costs 2,20 €. Helsinki tourist ticket for 1-5 days costs 6-18 €.

You can find timetables and more public transport information from www.ytv.fi/eng or www.hkl.fi .

MORE ABOUT BADMINTON

The arena

The Badminton tournament will take place in Campo Sportcenter which is one of the best badminton halls in Finland. By public transport from Helsinki City Centre you take first metro line to eastbound. Every second train goes to end station Mellunmäki, where you change to bus number 62 (to Tikkurila). After 3-4 minutes and 4 bus stops you get off and you see our tournament hall on the right side. If you buy a single ticket, buy a regional one, and you can change during 80 minutes. Public transport information you can find at www.hkl.fi or www.ytv.fi also in English.

On Saturday morning there are buses from Mellunmäki metro station e.g. at 8.05 and 8.20 am. That means you have to take metro from Central Railway Station at 7.39 or 7.49 am. If you play only double you can make your check-in in the tournament hall until 1.00 pm.

During the tournament you will get the lunch package. There is also a cafeteria in Campo where you can buy sandwiches, pastry, drinks and so on at reasonable prices. There is also a badminton equipment shop.

Tournament

Every player and couple will have at least three games of one set (21 points) in the pools. Most of the players and couples will continue with knock-out system. The finals will be played as best of three sets. In each category will three best players or couples be rewarded.
